    missing stanzas

    Why are a few stanzas missing? In Part III, after the 1st stanza, "Earth, receive an honoured guest:" should come the following three stanzas:

    "Time that is intolerant
    Of the brave and innocent,
    And indifferent in a week
    To a beautiful physique,

    Worships language and forgives
    Everyone by whom it lives;
    Pardens cowardice, conceit,
    Lays its honours at their feet.

    Time that with this strange excuse
    Pardoned Kipling and his views,
    And will pardon Paul Claudel,
    Pardons hom for writing well."

    Just curious as to why this was left out?
    Have always loved the poem though.

    Probably my favorite poem ever. At least I've come to live my life by that one last perfect stanza.
    Because life isn't measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away...

  • For anyone who loves Lovecraft, this is his ultimate contribution to the poetic form... I especially like XXIII, Mirage; XXVIII, Expectancy; & XXXVI, Continuity. These are so evocative that they can take you there...

  • Kind of a nice & fitting comment on mankind's vanity, don't you think?
