on In Memory Of Anyone Unknown To Me by Elizabeth Jennings, on October 10, 2008I think this poem grew stronger with each successive stanza. Her conclusion, that one's worth need not be assessed, speaks to the universality of the human experience. She, and we, should grieve for each life that is lost.

on We Wear the Mask by Paul Laurence Dunbar, on September 5, 2007Knowing the ethnicity of this poet helped to see his words in the light of his times. I think his meaning is universal for all people who are forced to assume a mask to survive in this world. Dunbar's cries are heartrending and his sorrow is evident in every line.
