on Perhaps (To R.A.L.) by Vera Brittain, on August 9, 2006Perhaps not brilliant or amazing though it is in a simplistic way. This stanza is especially poignant because it is that time of the year when we miss them most.
Perhaps some day I shall not shrink in pain
To see the passing of the dying year,
And listen to Christmas songs again,
Although You cannot hear.'

on A Pig's-Eye View Of Literature by Dorothy Parker, on August 2, 2006I'm fairly certain that "Byron and Shelley and Keats" is the first line of the second stanza and if not, it should be. I can provide a link if you like.

on 40,000 by Charles Bukowski, on July 14, 2006Vintage Bukowski. And an accurate observence of those around him though I think this poem is mostly about the horses and him doing what he loved. The rest is just a side dish.
