  • But...

    while i agree that this is a beautiful expression of giving value to one's life, somehow i think that the intention of the poem isn't as simple as it may seem. Emily Dickinson spent a majority of her life as a recluse, could it really be that she was lamenting her own lifestyle, her distance from the world? Perhaps she felt that she was living in vain by not being able to go out into the world and interact with society and have the opportunity to do all of the things she writes about.

    I absolutely love this poem, and Poe is officially my favorite poem of all time, but I like The Raven better.

    This is my favorite Edgar Allen Poe poem ever written and I, like MxOrpheus hope to memorize it one day. It would make an excellent slam poem. Long live Poe's legacy.
