I've been reading a lot of Whitman of late. One of the few American poets who become loved WHILE he lived. One of his very best writings is SPECIMEN DAYS . . . not poetry, but an account told in his style of the Civil War and the tradgedy it brought. Truly incredible piece of writing, but then I'm a history nut and very biased in that regard. Worth reading all the same.
