I think this is a great poem about not letting anything distract one from the spiritual pathway and accepting whatever comes to one including pain and eventual death. There are layers and layers of meaning here too numerous to put down but one could go for a long time. Putting autumn seeds could also mean burying seeds that will germanate in the spring way after winter and winter here could mean the poet's death. As I said lots and lots of layers to enjoy....

  • I started to read this as I always do not knowing who the poet is and I was astonded at the beauty and talent in this poem. Then I loved to see who it was so I could read more, but alas Yeats is no more. He really was one great poet.

  • I guess this poem is to the things that the poet loves about the world and not to accept someone else's judgement of what is good and what is not. I think the poet is a lighting rod of the population and that all unique and even spiritual thoughts are directed towards the poet and he or she communicates it in poetry as this poet certainly did.

  • This is a terrific poem. I have not read it before. She must have been quite a woman for this poet not to forget her all those years. What else is there to know except the poet loved her very much.
