  • There was another poem, written around the Waradgery tribe, called The Rogery Birds. It too was written by Dame Mary, and I learnt it back in primary school (20 odd years ago). Since then, I have never seen it published, but I get the feeling there's been a ballet or something created around it. It is another great poem, but it isn't listed here on OP. Will have to have a hunt for it here at home (think I have it on a piece of paper somewhere).

  • For any Aussies who read this, Slim Dusty made a recording of this. He didn't sing it, he just recited it, backed by the occasional chord on his guitar. Lots of giggles in this one.

There was an error too! It was included on a 2CD album of Paterson and Lawson Poetry, no credit was given to Harrington at all. Von

  • I never HAD to study this one ... but I found it in one of my old school poetry books (think I would have been 11 or 12 at the time) and I learnt it by heart for my own pleasure. Like another comment below, 20 years later it's still with me. Perhaps this is the poem which influenced one I wrote on Allpoetry - The Day The Street Stood Still. Still a great yarn.

"It is not necessary to do great works ... just do little works with great love." - Mother Teresa.

Not everyone can be extraordinary on earth, but to God we are ALL extraordinary - and it's the ordinary people who make the world run day to day. A very thought provoking poem.
