Yes i see a lot of the parts that were featured in the french lieutenants woman by john fowles. i didnt really pay attention to the little poemy bits in that book maybe i should do from now on,

    worth thinking about.

  • I know some of these, because in the novel 'the french lieutenants woman' at the start of each chapter fowles uses quotes from various establish poets, some of which are from this series, in fact a lot of them are Tennyson based.

so, theres a bit of tennyson trivia for ya! mauds in there too. i might go read that.

  • you see the version i know goes

baa baa black sheep have you any wool
Yes sir, yes sir 3 bags full
    one for the master
    one for the dame
and one for the little boy
    who lives down the lane.

Though when we were little we sang the little boy who lives down the drain cos you know, it was funny, or something.

  • Well, us ye oldie english types still sing this lovely little ditty.

They should never have put a link to oldpo on the front page of allpo it's just another reason for endless procrastination. If they paid me to procrastinate by gum I'd own the world by now.

This doesn't really have any meaning at all, but somehow its stayed in our tradition for goodness knows how long.

i feel we brits may be a tidbit sentimental.
