on A New Temperance Poem, in Memory of My Departed Parents by William Topaz McGonagall, on May 25, 2004This is McGonegall at his very best! He is often called the worst poet that ever wrote in English. It's an inspiration to read him, knowing that we cannot do worse!

on Composed Upon Westminster Bridge, September 3, 1802 by William Wordsworth, on May 24, 2004Excellent critique. When I first read it, having previously read many of Wordworth's Lakes poems, I felt that here is a man who can find beauty not only in the power and splendour of nature but also in my man-made, humble home town. I'd like to have met him.

on We Are Seven by William Wordsworth, on May 24, 2004This is one of the poems that first made me love poetry. I have a book of Wordsworth's poems and always go to this one when I pick it up. It never fails to bring a tear to my eyes.

on Renouncement by Alice Meynell, on May 24, 2004At the moment this is my favourite poem of all time and has been for the past 15 years or so when I first read it. It is so intense though restrained. I wish I'd written this one!
