  • on My Country by Dorothea Mackellar, on January 7
When I was a child I had a pen pal from Australia. I remember asking her how it felt to be an Australian. Now I know. What a magnificent poem this is.

  • on The Absence Of The Muse by Clark Ashton Smith, on October 27, 2009
Oh how beautiful! How wonderfully he opens up the imagery from fantasy and the fresh inventions of science to the world of traditional poetry! what a different conception of the muse: more vast and planetary and universal, not just garbed in classic sandals and Greek robes!

  • on Amaryllis by Edwin Arlington Robinson, on October 22, 2009
Thank you Eusebius, for showing me this poem! I had no idea E.A.R. wrote so beautiful sonnets that they make one ache with wonder!

  • on The City In The Sea by Edgar Allan Poe, on June 11, 2009
One of my favorite poems by Poe. I can read this over and over and find new beauties in it.
