Very nice poem. A good deal of economy in the word choice - no wasted syllables in this one. Very nice.

  • "Into each life some rain must fall" - don't know if this is the first appearance of this line, but it is truly about the only part of this poem that I like. Even the old classics tend to bore me, sometimes. I know many people consider this a great poem, but, I am convinced that many pieces written by some of these men are just common poems given weight by heavy bylines...

  • I think I disagree with those who say this does not seem like Kerouac. His mastery at evoking minute imagery is so well established in books such as Desolation Angels and The Dahrma Bums.
Of course, any time spent reading Kerouac is time well spent. His work has inspired multiple generations to write, to travel, to just purely enjoy jazz. So many of us list this man as a major influence. He deserves to be recognized and remembered always. I know I certainly am richer for his work.

This is a really fine haiku. Very simple and evocative.
