  I think you must have an understanding of the Beat generation in general to understand Ginsberg's masterpiece here. While it may just seem like a ramble, each section illustrates an important part of the Beat counterculture's lifestyle.
  
  I think that to truly love this piece you must understand the time period and at least know about the events written within it. I believe that many people who don't even enjoy sections of this poem just don't know much about the era.
