Hello there, Maybe I can help a little.
This poem is a tribute to the women of Colonial Australia.

Break the poem down line by line if necessary and read it out loud. It speaks of what the women left behind (vine-wreathed cottages)to begin a life of dust and heat and being without their men at home. They brought children up alone whilst the men were working. They had little or no other women with whom to talk to or confide in. I've always found it much better to hear it read out loud - it makes a much better impact. Good Luck with your assignment.
