Each visitor is different but most will follow a certain routine when visiting this web-site.
Some will go straight for a particular poem or poet.
Some will go straight for poem of the day.
Some will read through the latest comments.
Some will use the random button.
Some check out the thought for the day.
Some may even visit these Forum pages.

What is your regular routine when visiting us here at Oldpoetry?
Add a comment to this thread and let us know what you do and what we could do to improve your visit.

I come here almost everyday, usually to find poets I'm already interested in, and sometimes to discover new writers. I prefer some Bukowski, or Wilmot or Byron, or anyone French, particularly Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Verlaine, Mallarme, anything fin de siecle. This is a great site, can't think of anything to improve it.
    cheers.
    • Thanks for the info.
Drop me a message if there is ever anything we can help with.

I probably don't have a routine...but it's a good question. I have no idea what I do first, or most here, besides annoy people.

I like humor so I sometimes type in a potentially funny word like "cow" in the search box hoping to find some gem. Sometimes it works.

I typed in Moxie once...I got nothing, lol.

I look first to recent comments showing on the main page. From there I click on some of the poems to see if they are really good (or bad) as the comments say.
    • That is one of my favourite starters too. I have read some great poetry following in the footsteps of other visitors.

    I do As ...

I do as Romans do, I mean Yemassee do. I also have no set routine when I visit my favorite. Sometimes I just go to the site and do nothinh just keep seeing the names of the great poets...I dont think even.
well am a moderator as well so I also open the comment thread and read the comments on different poems to see if there is something I can help.
I also read the poems of the home page...of the day.
then I switch to Allpoetry and read the poems of my poetry site friends.
so I do something but cannot tell what.
I can write more about my routine but I dont know when I will change or break my roetine.

I try to come whenever I have a spare time to look for inspiration or just to get a good reading going on- anything to 'take me away' from reality
  • I wouldn't say I have a usual routine here, I come here as B says to find inspiration from my favourite old masters or even from a poet I had never come across before, if that doesn't help I might do a random search settling for doing some reading instead. This can also help to improve my vocabulary range and do some tweaking of my writing style. Then there are the times I am merely searching for a not so widely known poem to use as a contest prompt, and trying to find poets to possibly add to the site - making sure they aren't already here. So while my reasons to be here may be haphazzard I do enjoy my stay.
  • It seems that there is a commonality beginning to emerge.
Most of us seem to be wishing to immerse ourselves in the works of the masters (and mistresses) either just for relaxation or to provoke our own muses.
Our routes may be slightly different relying on randomness or daily selections but whatever our itinerary the destination is the same.

I usually come to look for a specific poet or poem; but sometimes wish to know what has been added...is there a place to find things recently added? [I have been pleased to run a series of contests on the lesser known brilliance of Africa and Latin America, translations from Portuguese, Spanish and French mostly...and plan to do more.]...PK
    • Hi PK
I have watched your footprints on the site and read some of your insightful comments with pleasure. They have prompted me to read more poems.
The only place that has a link to the new stuff is within the mods section to which access is restricted.
We are always pleased to have more truly OLD-POETS which normally means deceased prior to 1950 roughly. Especially poems not written in English (even more especially if they have an accompanying translation but it's not vital). You might like to have a look at this thread http://oldpoetry.com/board/topic/1069 for more information about what we try to do.

  • I usually sift through the comments of the day first, and sometimes they take me to an interesting poem. I've never been able to find the "Random Button" but I'll continue looking.

Then I usually do some MOD chores, approving or "disproving" comments from guests, adding or editing poems. But today I got hooked by I-Like-Rhymes' latest bait!

    • RANDOM

Head on down, down, down to the bottom of the page.
On the Left just after Help is the random button. Beware it is not truly random but it is useful.

  • Random!

Thanks, Jim! I knew there was a bottom around here somewhere.
