The intention of this thread is to highlight the contributions our readers make through their comments.

There is nothing wrong with saying I like this poem because it's funny or something similar but sometimes readers say a little more and explain what they believe the poem is about.

We may not agree with what is written in the comment but often, like the poem, they provoke a spark of insight in our own minds and those are the sort of comments I most enjoy reading and which I think should be encouraged.
  • Sure on this Shining Night by James Agee

    Guest Steve Luker writes:-

This is a poem about what lies beyond this Earth and realm.

It's about longing for a place that must certainly eclipse the seemingly insurmountable beauty and light of this life.

In this poem, Agee is weeping for that place...

"On this night, when the stars are so bright as to leave shadows on the ground, Fate (or maybe a Guardian Angel) had better keep a close eye on me."

"Because, though all is warm and happy around me here on Earth, I long for what lies beyond this life."

"Though the starlight is beautiful and bright, I long for death, when I can exist in some place where shadows from some greater, unseen Heavenly light fall upon the very stars that seem to shine so brightly tonight."

Morten Lauridsen's composition of this poem, I feel, may give one a glimpse of what Agee was trying say.

  • I think personally that Andrews’s idea has merit and thank you for taking it further Jim.
I like these comments too, they are a luxury compared to just a few words from most, unfortunately some intelligible.- in a text language that is an offence to the English Language.
By adding comments in this similar vein to Allpoetry it just may give someone else an idea, spark an interest, jog a memory, who knows but it certainly cannot be a bad thing for Oldpoetry either way.
I say let’s go for it if it is technically possible and even if not there is always a way around it – we could ‘circumnavigate’ couldn’t we Jim?
