In getting to know my way around in here, I have several questions:

    1. I still don't receive my messages (the comments) when moderators here at OP answer a question on an old poem unless I log in here. I mentioned this to Jim several months back. I notice that some AP members do comment on poems here from their AP accounts using the link at AP for classical poetry, but they do not even have accounts here and so any answer you might give would never be received by them.

    2. I also think the link at AP (from the drop down menu in Learn - Classical poetry) needs to include the "Poems of the Day" if we want to encourage more random interaction that might become habitual. It's not that clear when you go to that link that there is a poem of the day anywhere - you just see the recently made comments.

    3. Where in the world do I press in here to get back to the homepage again? "Poetry," in the banner, takes me to popular poets and "old poetry", in the banner, doesn't click at all. I have to keep going back up to the address and typing in the oldpoetry.com address. I don't see a home page link anywhere, top or bottom. Am I missing it?

    Thank you for your help.

    3. Old PoetryBanner

clicking back to the homepage seems to be in working order now. Thank you.
  • Where are we?

    EA-

Some of us have been stumbling around here so long that we've been made moderators!

  • There is no membership of Oldpoetry as far as I am aware. I have never joined.
Paid membership at Allpoetry includes Oldpoetry automatically I believe.
Responses to peoples comments will only appear on a members page if they are placed using the "reply" link on the original comment.
As mods we respond in a variey of ways. For members we usually (but not always) respond via the reply link; for non members we use the edit comment facility and add MOD MESSAGES to the end; sometimes we just add a new comment. Only the first of these will generate a return message.
I will hunt up some of your recent comments and try all three to see what happens on your system.

Your point about the link from Allpoetry to Oldpoetry is a good one. Few people seem to look at the big picture and search the links at the bottom of the page. I'll play around there and then send off appropriate suggestions to Kevin.

Your final point seems to have answered itself but just to confirm I click on the top left of the logo in the "Old Poetry" area and it works for me. I also have a few links in my own system favourites to such useful pages as the most recent comments section since, as you have probably noticed, members comments do not have to go through a filter system and I feel it is useful to check them periodically since some members do post weird or obscene comments or post queeries that deserve a response.

Keep firing away with these questions because, as Charlie hints, we have been mods for so long we miss a lot of the routine stuff and there is no real handbook to the system.

I see that there are new members at AP who are commenting sometimes here from the AP link and they do not show up as members here at OP if they joined AP and never signed up here. I believe that only the people who were members of AP/OP before the Feb, 14, 2006 switchover, where the two sites were separated, are automatically listed as members here.

I had actually originally joined OP and began posting my poems from OP on July 1, 2005 (and was not even aware of AP except that my poems seemed to be archived there) but when the switch came into place, only my AP account reflected that date and the OP account then reflected the Feb. 14, 2006 date.

I believe that new members of AP have to sign up to receive an OP account if they wanted to receive answers to their comments. The trouble is they don't realize that when they access OP from AP. Either the comments need to be forwarded to the AP account or it needs to be clearer that they should start an account here. Perhaps they don't even realize that someone might answer their comment and aren't concerned about it.

The way it stands, it's all sort of hit or miss, as you may remember I did not receive that message about the Spanish poetry translation so several months because I didn't log in here.
    • That probably explains your very different looking profiles on the two sites. At first I thought it was two people LOL.
      • The AP Greeters could help here. they send each new AP member a message with all sorts of information, perhaps if they were to add a section, written by you Jim that may help any one interested to come over here and sign up too.
