Hey, is there any analysis on Bishop Hatto? I've tried searching on the internet but it seems to me there are no histories involved whatsoever with the poem..any feedbacks would be appreciated!Ü Tnx

Seems this poem is based on a ballad--which is based on a 10th century German Bishop. He was not popular with the people because he abused his religious power to gain access to the rulers (Kings) and made many wicked policies that hurt commoners. The Mouse Tower, a folktale, tells the poem version. You may like to check out Lilian Gask's 1865 book (on the net). Longfellow's poem, "The Children's Hour" has the elements of the ballad, but the sound of the mice/rats is turned into the sound of his children (they "kill" their father with love); the name of the bishop is different.
