I find myself revisiting these lines from The Pillow Book of Tenth-Century Japan. Author of the following, Sei Shonagon.

    Elegant things:
A white coat worn over a violet waistcoat.
    Duck eggs.
Shaved ice mixed with liana syrup and put in a new silver bowl.
    A rosary of rock crystal.
Snow on wisteria or plum blossoms.
    A pretty child eating strawberries.
Just wondering, anyone, what do you find or define as elegant things? I'll share mine later.

    elegant things:

    to begin
    a single flower
small gold chain worn around the neck
    a slow smile.............

the sound of crickets in the meadow
    the flight of butterflies
    the sound of rain
    a night sky showcasing stars
    the sound of the ocean
the sway of the willow branches...

      contact from my son
fresh flowers on an autumn day
wearing something new for the first time - and feeling good about myself.

The following beautiful lines are from Spanish poet Ruben Dario:
    stanza 1 from "Blazon"
    The snow-white Olympic swan,
    with beak of rose-red agate,
    preens his eucharistic wing,
which he opens to the sun like a fan.

last line from "Symphony in Gray Major:
"...and the cricket begins a monotonous solo on the only string of its fiddle."

Thanks for posting "Symphony in Gray Major". Dario brought "Spain" and the Spanish zest into his works. Just finished reading a collection of his poetry and am left breathless by the sheer magic of his work!
