What is everyone's interpretation of the "brown study."
-
When I was growing up (in England) a brown study was an unusually serious contemplation in which the 'studier' was so wrapped up they ignored their surroundings. It was uually accompanied by a frown or serious expression.
It was often used about a person with a normally cheerful disposition.
