Questions about the Poem Area (See general questions)

  1. Spotlighting a favourite poem

Anyone can spotlight an individual poem on OldPoetry by going to the poem page and clicking the link on the right hand side of the screen.
They can also say why they are spotlighting it.

These suggestions are checked daily and added to a display list. There are usually about a dozen awaiting their turn to become one of the 4 poems selected at different times during a day.

Spotlighting poets is more difficult and is usually done by one of the mods writing a column about the poet and adding it to the store of columns here at OldPoetry. Often this is done on an anniversary or a birthday or something similar.

If you have a favourite poet you wish to spotlight you can suggest it by a message to one of the Oldpoetry Mods. You might also like to write your own column and have that posted here at Oldpoetry. Write it up on your own AP page and then send one of the OP mods a link.
  2. Why is the date written after the date the author died?

It is often not possible to give an exact date for when a poem was written and in such cases it is common to use the date the poem was first published.
Sometimes the publication was done posthumously and so it appears as if the poem was written after the poet died.
This is usually obvious from the poet and poem notes.
