Allama Muhammed Iqbal Written by Faisal Hanif by Faisal Hanif, from I-Like-RhymesMost of us, poetry lovers or others, have read Allama Muhammed Iqbal at least some of him somewhere. To many he remained hard-to-understand philosopher poet. Iqbal has written pure poetry too which is equally remarkable. I like Dr Iqbal, one my favourite poets. I find his poetry the most interesting, most intriguing and most touching. It leaves an indelible mark on reader's mind. I vitalize his style also his gift for conciseness and frugality.

Goose Stepping
For Morag
The Victorian Tommy used the term goose stepping to refer to marching in reference to the goose's rather obvious left-right left-right waddle (especially fast paced units such as the DLI).
The high stepping German drill we now think of as goose-stepping was much more emphatic than that and derived from the Stechschritt (piercing step) and Stechmarsch of the Prussian Army
The term came into common parlance following a Cartoon in 1936.

on Sailor-Man by Edwin James Brady, 6 hours agoAn excellent piece of writing by someone who knows his stuff.
It points out just what a real sailor would think about the sloppy, sentimental, bilge that land-lubbers used to sing and talk about "a sailor's life"
Although Brady doesm't appear to have been a sailor himself he will have met enough real sailors in his job as a wharf clerk to know what they actually thought.
He has also done a good job in conveying the language of the day too.
This would make a good recitation piece or monologue.

Edwin J. Brady
I've just gotten a copy of THE WAYS OF MANY WATERS, 1899, and will be harvesting and posting more poems by this poet. I find it fascinating stuff, truly a portal to another time and place.
