on O Captain! My Captain! by Walt Whitman, on May 30, 2005Actually, this poem was considered a classic, but it has since dropped in critical stature, much like 'Annabel Lee' by Poe. Whitman's 'Song of Myself' is now generally considered his masterpiece.

on I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman, on May 30, 2005Cthulu, as soon as you become a published poet, then you can criticize Whitman.
After you've read this, read Langston Hughes poem, 'I Too Sing America', which was a response to this poem. -
on The Red Wheelbarrow by William Carlos Williams, on May 19, 2005This may help with the understanding of the meaning:
As you may now, Williams was also a working doctor. He was sitting in the bedroom of a sick little girl who was going to die, and looked out the window and saw this scene. This supposedly was the inspiration for the poem. -
on This Is Just To Say by William Carlos Williams, on May 19, 2005This poem is actually more than it seems. It is about the truthfulness of apologies. Do you really think this guy was that sorry that he ate the plums? If he was, he wouldn't have eaten them! This is his sort of social commentary, saying apologies really don't mean that much, you just use them to clear your own guilt.
