  • on Ace Shaw by Edgar Lee Masters, on June 12, 2004
this brief poem packs a wallop, probably from the spoon river anthology, displaying Masters' talents in portraying a sliace of life. the closing lines would make even the best writer envious.

  • a very tightly controlled, brief poem using commas for pacing. like an instant photograph of a street scene.

  • The poem ends rather abruptly and I keep thinking there must be something more to it. I see the beginning about the travelers perishing in the snow but I don't know how that lead to the end about Mystery and Heaven.

  • on Cross by Langston Hughes, on May 13, 2004
yes, Langston was a bit confusing and confused throughout his life. That he was mixed in a time of segregation obviously contributed to it. This poem really speaks to the slave experience and kind of dual identify many African Americans have.
