Dame Mary Gilmore D.B.E. (1865–1962)
Mary Jean Cameron was born near Goulburn, New South Wales. She married William Gilmore who she met on a trip to Paraguay in the 1890s. She became a teacher and a writer and was editor of the women's pages of the Australian Worker newspaper for 23 years.
