Gertrudis Gomez de Avellaneda

I lived from 1814-1873. I was from Cuba, and am in the Americas category.

Known as the "Spanish Sappho" and acclaimed in life as the greatest poet of her sex, Gertrudis Gomez de Avellaneda is remembered today chiefly for having authored the first anti-slavery novel in any language [Sab and for her torrid love letters (published posthumously by her lover's widow).
