Gwendolyn Bennett

I lived from 1902-1981. I was from the United States, and am in the Americas category.

Between 1923 and 1926 Gewndolyn Bennet shone like new money. James Weldon Johnson recognized Bennett as a lyric poet of some power during that time. She never managed to publish a book of poetry and was still widely respected as a Poet. Gewndolyn was born in Giddings, Texas in 1902. Graduating in 1921, Ms. Bennet began to flower just as the Harlem Renaissance was making its presence known. She passed in 1981 and was recognized as a Harlem Renaissance artistic giant.
