I lived from 1579-1625. I was from England, and am in the English category.
Fletcher was born in Rye, Sussex, of a distinguished family. He was the grandson of the Elizabethan sonneteer Giles Fletcher, the first cousin of the religious poets Phineas Fletcher and Giles Fletcher the younger, and the son of the Reverend Richard Fletcher, who later became Bishop of Bristol and of Londond. Educated at Cambridge, Fletcher achieved his fame as a dramatist. HIs work with Francis Beaumont, in the most famous collaboration in English literary history, produced such masterpieces as The Maid's Tragedy and Philaster and led the the development of the genre tragicomedy, but Fletch'ers independent work also produced much of value, such as the pastoral The Faithful Sheperdess. The influence of Jonson, particularly noticeable in the last-named play, can also be felt in Fletcher's masques, and in the songs which were scattered so liberally throughout his dramatic works. He died of the plague in 1625.
