Jorge Manrique

I lived from 1440-1479. I was from Spain, and am in the European category.

He wrote love songs, satires, and acrostic verses, which were mostly printed in Hernando del Castillo's Cancionero General. (1511)  However, Manrique owes his fame to one single poem,  Coplas Par la Muerte de su Padre, which was written after the death of his father.  The Coplas have been set to music several times, and H.W. Longfellow published a version of the Coplas in english at the beginning of his career.
