I lived from 1804-1864. I was from the United States, and am in the Americas category.
I was influenced by poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
Nathaniel Hawthorne was born on 4 July 1804 in Salem, Massachusetts. His family can be traced back to the 17th century. His ancestor William Hathorne (The 'W' in the name was added by Nathaniel once he began to write) Although better known for his novels and short stories he also write some fine poetry. His first serious attempt at writing was a novel named 'Fanshaw' written once he had graduated from college.
He wasn't happy with it and attempted to destroy all copies.
He went on to write his two most well known novels:
The Scarlet Letter (1850) and The House of the Seven Gables (1851).

My poetry
- Go to the grave where friends are laid,
And learn how quickly mortals fade,11 lines - How sweet the silver Moon's pale ray,
Falls trembling on the distant bay,11 lines - Ye forms of Heroes slumb'ring here,
Beneath these tombstones cold and drear,11 lines
