Ramon Maria del Valle-Inclan

I lived from 1869-1936. I was from Spain, and am in the European category.

Ramon del Valle Inclan, was born in 1866 and raised in Galicia. He studied law and later settled in Madrid.

He is recognised as being a leading Spanish dramatist and poet in the last century.

Valle-Inclán began his career as a journalist and short-story writer. In 1907 he wrote and published, Eagle Rampant the first of his Barbaric Comedy triology to be written and this was followed in 1908 with The Romance of the Wolves, but it was not until 1922 that the triology was completed with Silver Face, a prequel to Eagle Rampant.

These stories although bringing Valle-Inclan to fame, it was more through the shock these stories gave to society than any other reason. The triology written in a style Valle-Inchan coined as "esperpento," contained many scenes which were deemed as politically and morally challenging at the time of publication, but now can be seen as simply being before their time.

Valle Inclan died in 1936.
