I lived from 1901-1994. I was from Japan, and am in the Asian category.
I was influenced by poet Kyoshi Takahama .
Yamaguchi Seishi was a disciple of Takahama Kyoshi (1874-1959). Kyoshi once called Seishi “one of his more out of the way disciples”. Seishi’s poems, especially his haiku, show a daring innovation of style and subject matter that are somewhat at odds with the more conservative Kyoshi.
Seishi, together with 3 other poets named Shuoshi, Soju and Seiho, created the “Four-S Epoch” of the Hototogisu School founded and lead by Kyoshi.
He is now regarded as one of the most influential Japanese haiku writers of the twentieth century.
