Thomas Wyatt was educated at St John's college, Cambridge, and became an important and popular member of the court of King Henry VIII. In c.1520 he married Elizabeth Brooke, from whom he separated c.1525, charging her with adultery. He served Henry VIII on a number of missions, including to the Papal court and Venice in 1527, and in various offices and was knighted in 1535.
