William Browne was born in Tavistock, Devon around 1591 and was educated at Exeter College, Oxford and Middle Temple.
He was renowned for his pastoral verses and epitaphs but best known for "Britannia's Pastoral," a long poem in three books, the first published in 1613 and the second in 1616 but the third never reached publication until as late as 1852.
Browne collaborated with several other poets including George Wither in the "Shepherd's Pipe," 1614.
