I lived from 1911-1990. I was from Australia, and am in the Oceania category.
William Hart-Smith was born in England, raised in New Zealand,(moving to NZ in 1924) and spent most of his career in Australia, after moving there in 1936.living in Sydney, Hobart, Western Australia and Darwin and serving in the A.I.F.between 1942-1943.He returned to New Zealand in 1946.
William moved back to Sydney in 1962 working as an advertising manager, then a radio technician. During 1963-64 he was president of the Poetry Society of Australia. In 1970 he moved to Perth and taught creative writing in Western Australia.
He produced approximately one thousand poems in his life. His work was noted, on the one hand, for its clarity and simplicity and, on the other hand, for its capacity for wonder and insight into natural things, the connections among them, and their relationships with us.
He died in Auckland, New Zealand on 15th April 1990
