Bahadur Shah Zafar

I lived from 1775-1862. I was from India, and am in the Asian category.

Bahadur Shah Zafar was the last Mughal emperor to rule India. after the revolt of 1857 also called the First war of Indian Independence he was arrested and exiled to Rangoon. Besides being a great lover of poetry Bahadur Shah was also a poet himself and his ghazals are popular and sung to this day. Mushairas or poetry readings were popular at his court. Great poets like Zauq and Ghalib were his court poets and his son's step son was none other than Daag, who later became the court poet of the Nizam of Hyderabad.
