    Also, as a retired teacher, I find a certain distance between then and now, for I never felt myself a vicarious mother. Though I have my own romanticized takes on my career, it is interesting to see how different Ms. Stitch's reflection is.

    I was relieved to see the note regarding line breaks for I was asking myself throughout the reading "why break there? It feels clumsy"

    Now this is one time I could use a non BBC type to read this to me. Somehow trying to pull it from the page as it is intended AND to decipher the history and the magic of the write is more than this little ole 'mercan gal kin handle at one time.

    The description of the square concept was helpful. The discussion regarding offensive or not, though interesting, wasn't much help.

    This feels much like my first attempts to read the Marriott Edgar - Albert Ramsbottom series. It took many tries but finally it all just fell into place. (The next step had me trying my hand at that same dialect -

  • My sense (or lack of it) found this piece started easily, gradually increased the slang, the vowel changes, the regional references that one might only understand through context. In this way, I think we were carefully led to accept and comprehend more than we would have otherwise.
