Completely agree with the last portion of the statement but the first, in my estimation is the result of trying to drop kick the muse through the uprights in a fog of alchohol - doesn't work for me.
I see the process as requiring perseverance, a positive outlook, and perhaps most important patience with ones self. To each his own motivation though I suppose. -
It sounds like a quote to me.
Probably it was not his day to write poetry. -

Maybe it takes a poet.
Nice goin' Charlie ! -
I like the way you wrote this all one word to a line. Makes you concentrate on what you are reading. Good job

I wonder if it is satire, for if it isn't, it may be a validation of the former and as likely, a touchstone for the latter.
It takes an equal amount of those three d's to read poetry...or do any pretty much anything beyond breathing.
"Even" in the third to last line, seems to be ill-placed..."either to write..." suggests an alternative is coming, where "even" suggests a new introduction where it should have been the completion of the alternative..."Either to write it, or to read it." It seems if he wants to use "even" he has to get rid of "either." Maybe it is just me.
Unless it is satire (and if not, it may be an example of taking oneself too seriously), I concur with previous comments. -
"I have a hand free I'll jot down a few words" perhaps his thought (not mine) perhaps he should have waited until after he'd finished his meal

This is very true, but it didn't take a genius to write that poem. Chopping up a few words and making a statement isn't very poetic.
