T' Lass to her Galloway* "Jerry"

Ho! my Jerry, to-day we go
Afore sun-up, afore cock-crow,
Five good miles, by farms we know,
Away, my Jerry, away!

Ho! my Jerry, then five I'll ride
On lile by-gangs* on t' intak* side,
Wheer banks an' bairns are speedwell-eyed
Git on, my Jerry, git on!

Ho! my Jerry, my game galloway,
Five lang miles wheer walls are gray,
Wheer ling-bobs flower an' curlew play,
Hold hard, my Jerry, hold hard!

Five mair miles ower yonder hill
Bluer to-day nor a girt crane's hill,
To trystin' brig in Halton Gill,
Well done, my Jerry, well done!

What fur a score of hard goin' miles?
A' fur t' sake of a lad who wiles
Wi' nobbut a score of kisses an' smiles!
Now whoa, my Jerry, now whoa.
