Mr. Prickles

Old Prickles he lives in the midst of a wood,
Where slugs, snails, and beetles abound for his food,
Himself and his wife, and their children all four,
In a snug little dwelling with ground for the vloor —
Ground for the vloor — ground for the vloor —
In a snug little nest that's got ground for the vloor!

Notes

From ALL THE OTHER CHILDREN, by Cicely Fox Smith, published by Methuen & Co., London, UK, © 1933, p. 60.

Mr. Prickles is of course a hedgehog.

This is Miss Fox Smith's adaptation of an old country song. The use of "vloor" is intended to sound like the west country dialect pronunciation of floor.
