Love is the Earth's whisper
after the stars fade
and the winds of dawn blow
the birth of the day...
The sincere laugh,
the shiny joy
of the lips, the sources
and the wave that balances
the sea...
Love is the memory
that time can not kill,
the well-loved song
happy and absurd...
It is the unheard music...
The silence that shakes
and seems to fill
a shivering heart
when the melody
of a bird song
wants to remain within...
Love is God in fullness,
the infinite extent
of the gifts that come
with the sun and the rain,
whether in the mountains,
whether in the fields;
it is the rain that falls
and the treasure stored
at the end of the rainbow.

Love is all...mine is shorter but infinitely more trite.
Not my favorite poem by de Moraes, or of the other Brazilian poets that Mariza Goes has graciously translated for us. Moraes is different from say, Bandeira or de Andrade who focus more on the roughness of life...of physical or spiritual matters. Moraes seems more concerned with the nature of relationships, in all their facets...mortal and divine, which is effective, some of his poetry more so than this one.
I do appreciate however, the full scope of this poem, its broad spectrum. -
This is beautiful...deep, rich, elegant poetry from soneone who obviously knew how to write love. Wonderful translation done by Marigoes (well done, Mari)! This poem has a delightful singing quality about it..lyrical, like love.

This is one of my favorite lyricists, have made his songs part of my day in many days... so now his poetry comes to my attention...it is welcome. These verses have his unique touch, a point of view that frames love in the everyday and in the eternal... seems with the same effortless breath; an amazing writer...so much of a unique way of thinking and it is reflected here.
The translation is filled with the subtle changes and the dramatic things that de Moraes does so well, his poetic voice is carried in this translation by MariGoes and the reader is able to have a sense so similar to the Portuguese of how words are used, and meanings...excellent...thank you...h.
