Poetry

I spent one hour thinking of a verse
my pen does not want to write.
Yet, it is here inside
restless, alive.
It is here inside
and does not wish to get out.
But the poetry of this very moment
overflows my whole life.

    Saudade

It's a word I never knew or understood but I think without understanding its meaning you cannot understand Drummond de Andrade as fully as you might.

The poem shows all the hurt, longing, and fatalistic feeling that the single word "saudade" expresses.

Having re-read it, I better appreciate this impressive poem.

I sometimes start to write verse from feeling, but find that there is a separation, not to be undone of the feelings and the words. Here i think he has found no matter the excellence or exquisite passion, nothing can portray the glow like the sun within, in a not to be repeated moment that shines like standing atop a great mountain for the first time...PK

It is good to know that even talented writers have that same inability to accurately express what is in their heads. Maybe sometimes it's not just our inability to accurately express these things, but our actually not wanting, or daring to express them.
