I hoped that he would love me,
And he has kissed my mouth,
But I am like a stricken bird
That cannot reach the south.
For though I know he loves me,
To-night my heart is sad;
His kiss was not so wonderful
As all the dreams I had.

A Kiss is always sweet.
This poem is about love, a reality?. Love simply make things great but in reality they are not as beautiful as they seem to be .
His kiss was not so wonderful
As all the dreams she had.
She was in love and would had enjoyed the taste of heaven, the taste of honey, the taste of love in that kiss but when she was writing the poem she had high intellectual level;Ah! but low love level and she wrote what she perceived. When a thinker comments about love and all the related beauties he or she simply comments on in a philosophical way but that will not be the same when taste, the flavor of love is mixed in the sight.
Don't blame the food, your appetite is no good!

Such a simple but wonderful poem, Sandy

Day dreaming is not a healthy activity____ I can feel it...it’s always sweeter than one can imagine___ Some thing special for part time lovers... well, let me add a famous proverb to this idea..." Don't blame the food___ actually you are not hungry"
She is, no doubt, a great thinker and poetess....

Anticipation is such a wonderful thing - this lady's expectations were not realised when that long-awaited kiss came.
simply written but her message is loud and clear.

This sounds like a poem written by a 13 to 16 year old girl who is just learning how to display their feelings onto paper. It has that tone to me, as if it is a first write of this certain subject for this author.
If it isn't, well, um, yeah.
A nice piece that is written here.
