The lad approached the maid and said:
-Antonia, I am still not used to your
body, to your face.
The maid looked with the corner of her eyes and waited.
-You remember when we were children
and suddenly saw a striped caterpillar?
The maid remembered.
-We stayed there staring at it...
The small child inside of her, showed in her eyes again.
The lad continued in a sweet voice.
-Antonia, you look like a striped caterpillar.
The maid opened her eyes widely, protesting.
The lad concluded:
-Antonia, you are funny, you look insane.

This is fun stuff, alas the analogy didn't sink in with her in the way he had intended. Isn't that so true when we try to be creative in our amorous intentions...when they fall on deaf ears we are mortally wounded...or am I giving away too much of my own history here?

So I see Bandeira was a well-rounded poet with a good sense of humor. Thanks Mariza Goes for this most enjoyable poem.
