Carlos Drummond de Andrade (with English translation)

Louvo o Padre, louvo o Filho,
O Espírito Santo louvo.
Isto feito, louvo aquele
Que ora chega aos sessent'anos
E no meio de seus pares
Prima pela qualidade:
O poeta lúcido e límpido
Que é Carlos Drummond de Andrade.

Prima em Alguma Poesia,
Prima no Brejo das Almas
Prima em Rosa do Povo,
No Sentimento do Mundo.
(Lírico ou participante,
Sempre é poeta de verdade
Esse homem lépido e limpo
Que é Carlos Drummond de Andrade).

Como é o fazendeiro do ar,
O obscuro enigma dos astros
Intui, capta em claro enigma.
Claro, alto e raro. De resto
Ponteia em viola de bolso
Inteiramente à vontade
O poeta diverso e múltiplo
Que é Carlos Drummond de Andrade.
Louvo o Padre, o Filho, o Espírito
Santo, e após outra Trindade
Louvo: o homem, o poeta, o amigo
Que é Carlos Drummond de Andrade.

Translation:

I praise the Father, I praise the Son,
The Holy Spirit I praise.
That done, I praise the one
Who reaches the sixty years
And in the midst of his peers
Presses for quality:
The poet lucid and clear
Which is Carlos Drummond de Andrade.

He shines in 'Alguma Poesia',
Shines in 'Brejo da Alma'
Shines in 'A Rosa do Povo',
In the 'Sentimento do Mundo'
(Lyrical or participant,
Always a true poet
This man agile and limpid
Which is Carlos Drummond de Andrade).

Because he is the farmer of the air,
The obscure mystery of the stars
He senses and captures in clear enigma.
Clear, high and rare. And furthermore,
He caresses the strings of a guitar
Completely at ease,
The poet diverse and multiple
Which is Carlos Drummond de Andrade.

I praise the Father, the Son, the Holy
Spirit, and after another Trinity
I praise: the man, the poet, the friend
Which is Carlos Drummond de Andrade.

There is a friendly and respectful feeling here, comrades in the arts, and influential talents in Brazil and internationally. The things noticed in praise of Drummond, certainly seem to be clear in his work, a wonderful image here, an impression of the place he held among his colleagues... excellent...PK
