To __________

Sunless days and starless nights
Bearing fruits of wrack and pain,
Purge my lips of lover's vows,
   Bid me never hope again.

Yet the longing of my soul,
   Oft denied, still faintly cries,
For the heaven of your smile,
And the starlight of your eyes.

I can definitely relate to this poem. I was just on the verge of writing, "Wow, you have a great classical style--I hope you write more soon" when I realized that I was on oldpoetry.com and not allpoetry.com.
    *sigh*
Ah well, though precious few people write like this anymore, it is a fair sacrifice for the brilliant works of modern poetry.
This poem sounds so familiar, but I have never heard the name of the author before. Of course, that is plain ignorance on my part, but I'm merely a child, I can't be expected to know everything.
It was sweet and short and left so much to wonder.
A beautiful piece--the break up song of the 19th century.
