A monk sips morning tea

A monk sips morning tea,
it's quiet,
   the chrysanthemum's flowering.

This is why I love Basho's poetry. It brings a measure of calm into a hectic life. Very therapeutic.

In all the serenity and quiet, life goes on (the drinking of the tea) and the cycle of nature continues. Is there also a contrast between the outside world, where things change, things bloom and inevitably die, and the inactivity of the monk, withdrawn from the world?

Yes...... very typical of Basho in subject and kigo. Sweet writing.

I like this one, a peaceful morning in a peaceful world. Let the flowers bloom quietly.
