    the moon seals it

    From guest Ann Miller (contact)
Japanese calligraphy art is "sealed" by the application of the scribe's chop or signature seal. Buson likens the moon to the seal, indicating authorship of nature to nature and intricate relationship of all beings/things.

WOW! What a lovely set of images we have here. This is like a painting come to life! So fitting of this poet. L1 traps the reader's attention instantly. L2 alongwith L1 reminds me of a painting I did in school...a very beautiful moment brought back to life in my mind's eye An excellent juxtaposition in L3 and a clean break in L2. Very commendable! I felt that he compared the handwriting of us humans on the paper to the geese in the sky. A not so perfect picture...yet there is something that just makes me not want to turn the page just yet..how intrigued I am with these 3 lines...ahhhhhhh! "The moon seals it" makes me think of a mother hiding her child's flaws. I wonder how others would interpret this haiku.

    original Japanese?

    From guest Suzanne (contact)
Would you by chance know where I could find the original Japanese text of this haiku? I am a Japanese calligraphy artist, and have searched for it in vain on the Internet. I want to use it on wall hanging!

This is really pretty. And soothing in a way. Like a secret Selene is concealing...'Simply and intriguing' is ture. I think one reason I like it so much.

Here he compares the geese as they fly across the sky to handwriting. "The moon seals it." This is extreemly simple and intriguing. In each poem I have discovered a new way of looking at things.
