A cuckoo sings

A cuckoo sings
to me, to the mountain,
    to me, to the mountain.

    very sweet

I think this is not the echo but the poet is talking about the magical twofold sound effect of the cuckoo's song. This is a very sweet haiku

I have to agree that I think this is a reference to an echo. Of course I could be wrong, but that's certainly what it seems like.

I like this, the repetition was good although I agree- as I don't know how this sounds in Japanese I don't know if this was an echo or just for emphasis.
Overall I liked this write and I'm glad I clicked the link from the poem on the Old Poetry Team's page

Think this echoing sound is repeated in this haiku. At leaast that's what it sounds to me.

I wonder what, 'to me, to the mountain,' sounds like in Japanese, maybe that is the key to this piece.
