When the shoe strings break
On both your shoes
And you're in a hurry-
That's the blues.
When you go to buy a candy bar
And you've lost the dime you had-
Slipped through a hole in your pocket somewhere-
That's the blues, too, and bad!

Loved this one
Ain't life a bitch??????????? -
I say that the poem may be very straightforward, but I think that there lies a double meaning. Something like, Life isn't fair, but we've got to tough it out and live on anyways. That's what I interpret from
That's the blues, too, and bad!

Langston in his richly keen awareness knew the Blues for sure. I love the line;
Slipped through a hole in your pocket somewhere-
I have honestly had that happen! LOL

Wow- this is such a powerful poem, especially because of its title. One would expect it to be about music, which in a sense is quite glamourous but it shows you the grim reality of life that blues music played. This poem made me think.

This poem seems so simple on the surface. Is there a deeper meaning to it and if so what is it?
