Shaken,
The blossoms of lilac,
And shattered,
The atoms of purple.
Green dip the leaves,
Darker the bark,
Longer the shadows.
Sheer lines of poplar
Shimmer with masses of silver
And down in a garden old with years
And broken walls of ruin and story,
Roses rise with red rain-memories.
May!
In the open world
The sun comes and finds your face,
Remembering all.

OperaElf,
Above, it doesn't say it is 'public domain'. It says it is believed to be 'public domain'.
Also, even if it isn't, the Researchers and Kevin himself get permission from those they would have to on material that isn't known or even semi-known to be public domain.
Recently I believe, that all material by authors on this website that were not public domain have been taken out of the 'public' eye of this website. Only those who are Oldpoetry Researchers, Administration and Kevin can view these materials.
this part of my comment is not to you, but, to the poem, I do not wish to make two separate comments, takes too much space I feel ..
I feel the first verse accentuates life to its fullest and then when you get to the second verse it actually accentuates it even further.
I agree with OperaElf, that this is an amazing and vivid piece. It's quite beautiful metaphorical or even literal it's quite beautiful.
An excellent piece by Carl Sandburg and if I could applaud this piece, I would.

i love sandburg...but holy. this is amazing. i love the descriptions...so alive and vivid.
this would make a beautiful song. although i don't believe carl sandburg's work to be public domain... i don't know why it says that. i think that to use it you have to go through his estate. hm.
an enchanting, lovely poem.
